This is it!

This is what its all about. Tomorrow is the big day! I passed the Introductory (Level 1) Sommelier exam. Tomorrow is the certified...I really hope I can pull this off! If not, I will be back again in a few months to take it again!

Daily Whine & Wine

This is a running list of some of the things that I tend to whine about in regards to anything really including wine, the wine industry and tasting room etiquette in particular. Basically this is a fun place to place some gripes and perhaps get a conversation started with my followers!

* WHINE * WINE * WHINE * WINE *

-People who stand outside a tasting room smoking cigarettes bother me. Please walk away!

-When tasting room guests prefer to pour out wine this is acceptable, but it is slightly annoying when they miss and their wine spills everywhere. One time is okay, but continuously? What's wrong with your aim? You're going to be cut off soon!

-Remember your poker face! I don't mind if you do not care for a particular wine that I pour for you, but must you make that face? Lets not be so dramatic. This is why I only pour a taste for you.

-This is a general gripe: It irritates me when someone asks a question, doesn't wait for the answer then talks over the person answering the question. This actually happens to me quite often in the tasting room, but I have to just smile and pretend it doesn't bother me. Outside of work, I may not take it as well!

-Pronouncing different names of wine varietals or types of wine can be difficult.

Here are a few helpful hints:

Viognier (prononced VEE-OH-NYAY) is an aromatic white grape varietal originating from the Northern Rhone Valley in France.

Meritage (rhymes with heritage) is a made up American word combining the words "merit" and "heritage". Meritage wines can be either red or white and use a combination of Bordeaux varietals.

-If you would like me to pour a smaller amount of wine to taste other than the usual 1 ounce pour that is fine. Please do not lift your glass to push the bottle up so that I must stop pouring. That is rude. You will not die if a little more wine gets in your glass. This is why its called a tasting. Taste as much as you like, then pour the rest out.

-It is best if you keep your glass on the bar when its time for the next taste of wine. A moving target is easy to miss and its not fun to spill wine!
